The Italian antitrust authority decided to fine Samsung and Apple for issuing software that slows down smartphones. The amount of the fine is five million euros for each company. But Apple got another case.
Thus, an additional five million Cupertina company will pay for not providing customers with full information about the maintenance and replacement of batteries in the iPhone. A group of Italian consumers who turned to the anti-monopoly structure, said that the software reduces the functionality of the device and is designed to "push" a person to buy a new device that will not slow down.
Both companies were found guilty of not providing the clients with full information about the impact of software on product functionality.
At the end of last year, it became known that fresh versions of iOS reduce the peak frequency of iPhone processors with a worn out battery. This reduced the performance of the device. Apple explained that a high power consumption of a worn battery could lead to a sudden shutdown of the smartphone - and therefore took such a step.
